HOW CAN YOU HELP?

This coming summer, May 19, 2023, three heats will be held in the Haifa Bay near Rambam, ranging from 900m to 4.2 kilometers. Swimmers from around the world will make every stroke count when they Swim From the Heart to support critical research into sudden cardiac death.

Help us make waves by spreading the word to your friends, colleagues, and family.

Three ways you can help are to:

  1. Make a gift, big or small to help us achieve our goal!
  2. Spread the word! Tell everyone you know - family, friends, and community - about our goal and yours.
  3. Set your own fundraising goal on your own page in minutes. Then ask friends to help you reach it. We will help you track your progress and see how your friends respond.
SWIM FROM THE HEART

Join hundreds of swimmers from around the world on Friday ,May 19, 2023, by participating in the 6th  International Swim from the Heart meet in Haifa, Israel.

Swim from the Heart will raise awareness and critical research funds to predict and prevent Sudden Cardiac Death (SCD) in children and young adults - a major cause of natural death worldwide.

Inspired by open-water swimmers from all over Israel and from Northern California, participants are being asked to give of their strength, passion and resources to swim in one of three heats (ranging from 900 km to 4.2 km) in the Haifa Bay - all in support of SCD research and developing new treatments at Rambam Health Care Campus.

WHAT IS SUDDEN CARDIAC DEATH (SCD)?

Patients exhibit no warning symptoms until the fatal incident, making prevention difficult. In the young, SCD is usually due to inherited genetic disorders that may result in the death of otherwise healthy individuals. Particularly tragic is the sudden death of a young athlete with no previous exhibited physical problems. Clearly new approaches are needed to enable early detection, prevention, and management to assure a promising future for people at risk for SCD.

The Bench-to-Bedside Center for Prevention of Sudden Cardiac Death at Rambam will initiate multi-disciplinary and collaborative SCD research between Rambam experts, Technion researchers, and medical industry. This cutting-edge research will contribute to the development and implementation of new preventive and therapeutic strategies to detect and manage SCD in the young, whoever and wherever they may live.

SWIMMING HEAT DETAILS

With the taste of summer in the air we will arrive at the Haifa Bay. Swimmers will jump the waves and begin swimming along the curves of the bay with a magnificent view of the Carmel mountain range sweeping down to meet the shore. Joined by the thriving underwater life, giant sea turtles, and an occasional playful dolphin, swimmers will affirm life with each stroke as they Swim from the Heart.

Participants will gather shortly after dawn at the Café Midrachof on the Haifa Bay Promenade (near booth 3 on the Zamir Beach). Following registration, the swimmers will be taken by bus to their various starting points.

The swim route will be marked by special buoys; boats and kayaks with rescue teams and medical staff will be along the entire route in case of need. The heats will not be timed.
